GDANSK, Poland (AP)—Germany coach Joachim Loew says he has not yet decided on his starting lineup for Tuesday’s friendly against Poland.
Loew told a news conference Monday that Benedikt Hoewedes is still a doubt for the game. The Schalke defender only played the first half of Friday’s 6-2 win over Austria.
Loew said “if there’s an element of risk, he’ll be rested,” while Bayern Munich defender Holger Badstuber “will definitely get a break. The central defense position beside (Arsenal signing) Per Mertesacker is still open.”
Positions in attack are still open too.
Loew said he had “a certain sense of anticipation for the game” and that his players will be highly motivated. Poland-born Germany striker Lukas Podolski said it will be “a special game for me.”
