Hearing: The Royal Courts of Justice on Fleet Street, London.
An irritated Mr Ferdinand said: ‘Does that mean I don’t go shopping, I don’t do anything else, just because I don’t mention it? That’s one thing I like doing… being a father. That’s why I have highlighted it.’
Mr Ferdinand, who lives in a £2.5million house in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, was brought up on a sink estate in South London and rose to be crowned England captain in February last year.
He took over the role from John Terry, who had been stripped of the title followed an alleged affair with Vanessa Perroncel, girlfriend of his teammate Wayne Bridge.
At the time, England manager Fabio Capello said that captains should set an example to ‘children and the fans’. The new promotion for Mr Ferdinand provoked debate, because of his previous sex scandals and an infamous missed drugs test in 2003, which led to an eight-month ban.
The footballer said yesterday that the manager also warned him privately: ‘Be professional. You have seen what happened to John Terry.’
But Ferdinand claimed in court that this was a reference to affairs ‘with a teammate’s missus’, not general infidelities.
Miss Storey submitted a statement to the court but was said yesterday to have ‘disappeared’ abroad.
But she was due to fly in to the UK last night and there is ‘a chance’ she may give evidence, the court heard.
The case continues.
