Spain will have some mouthwatering talents on view. Javi Martinez and Mata play for the national team, Barca’s Bojan trains every day alongside Lionel Messi, while keeper David de Gea is expected to join Manchester United after the tournament.
But Mancienne is adamant this group of players will give the country that invented football a long overdue shot in the arm.
England have won just one international tournament, the 2010 European Under-17s Championship, since the turn of the century. But they beat Spain’s Under-21s two years ago en route to the final with a team that featured Joe Hart and Adam Johnson.
Now, Mancienne senses England needs to see silverware in what would be the country’s biggest international success since 1966.
‘All the boys are geed up for it,’ he said. ‘We want to do well. Everyone wants to make our country proud.’
