Don't blame tiredness, says Pearce after Capello claims players were fatigued
Posted Monday, June 06, 2011 by Dailymail

Capello was a desperate man after seeing England drop more points in their European Championship qualifying campaign at Wembley.

He said: ‘We have quality. The problem is the energy. It is not my idea that they are really tired. You can see on the pitch. Jack Wilshere finished the last 10 minutes really tired.’

Pearce’s comments come in the wake of a fall-out between him and Arsene Wenger, Wilshere’s manager at Arsenal, over the youngster’s withdrawal from the Under 21 side who play in the European Championships from later this week.

Capello feels the domestic season is particularly demanding and that he  is fighting a cultural problem of  over-training. He will put his squad through stringent medical tests before selecting his teams as he searches for ‘lions not lambs’.

He has been left frantically searching for new ideas by the poor first-half performance in Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Switzerland and has decided he must limit the effects of fatigue.

He insisted that England will qualify and it would not be a problem.

Exasperated: Fabio Capello shows his displeasure at England's performance at Wembley

‘In October we will be different. But I hope we will not be lambs but lions in June,’ he said, in reference to a quote about England from UEFA president Michel Platini. England have failed to win in their last four Wembley matches but senior FA insiders insist they have no intention of dismissing the Italian.

Peter Crouch yesterday insisted he has no plans to quit international football, despite deep disappointment at not even being given a place on the bench against Switzerland.

The Tottenham forward has no intention of making a rash decision, although it will be interesting to see if he honours an England commitment with sponsors Mars in London on Tuesday.

Capello selected a  half-fit Bobby Zamora ahead of Crouch, who has a record at international level of 22 goals in  42 appearances. The Tottenham forward has no intention of making  a rash decision on his future.
