Terry said: ‘We’re fine, as we were previously, when I got the armband taken away. I’m pleased he’s back in the squad and I’m looking forward to playing alongside him.

‘It’s the proudest thing to wear the armband. It means the world to me. I was bitterly disappointed when I lost it.’

Terry added: ‘Since Rio has come back from his injury at Manchester United, he has looked awesome again.

He added: 'He (Capello) understands what makes us tick. The communication between the players and the management has been fantastic The players are in good condition.'

Why Rio and Terry are good together

England are a much-improved team with Terry and Ferdinand at the heart of defence. In the 34 games the pair have played as centre back partners, England have won 22, drawn six and lost six — a win percentage of 64.71.

When they haven’t appeared together in that time (60 games) England have only a 61.67 per cent win rate. Goals conceded per match also increases in the absence of either man (from 0.79 to 0.87) and the chance of a clean sheet goes down.
