Markiyan Lubkivskyi, the UEFA Ukraine tournament director, has revealed around one million people have already visited Ukraine for Euro 2012.

Markiyan Lubkivskyi, the UEFA Ukraine tournament director, revealed on Monday that according to border police, approximately one million foreign supporters came to Ukraine during the month of June for Euro 2012.

Lubkivskyi, who was visiting one of the fan parks in the capital Kiev, said he was very happy with the numbers.

SOUNDBITE (English), Markiyan Lubkivskyi, UEFA Euro 2012 tournament director:

"According to statistics I got this morning from Ukrainian border police, around one million foreign supporters visited Ukraine starting from June 5th. That is why we are really happy with the number of people who visited Ukraine."

The news from the Ukrainian authorities comes amid conflicting images from the streets of host cities, with the number of Italian, Spanish and even English supporters having seemingly been thin on the ground.

Euro 2012 continues on Wednesday with the first semi-final between Portugal and Spain.
