How they fared at Euro 2012
ROOSER ... Wayne Rooney had a poor tournament

JORDAN HENDERSON

BARELY got a kick and will need to improve vastly on last season’s Liverpool form if he is to figure big-time in England’s World Cup campaign.

Relies heavily on the reputation forged as a member of the Under-21 team but, for the moment, is destined to remain a squad man rather than a first-choice pick.

DANNY WELBECK

DEFINITELY the pick of the England strikers and definitely unfortunate to be taken off against Italy — Wayne Rooney was a much clearer candidate.

Made his mark in the Euros with clever control and movement and should be a powerful figure in Brazil, assuming England qualify. Can feel well pleased with his contribution.

WAYNE ROONEY

MISSED the opening two games through his own stupidity in the qualifying stage and never approached par in the two matches he did play. Was he even fit?

Scored a sitter against Ukraine but the fact is that while Roo is rated as a world-class player, he rarely shows it on the biggest stage.

JERMAIN DEFOE

THE tournament began sadly for the Spurs hitman with the death of his father. Things didn’t get much better when he rejoined the squad as he played only a cameo role.

Could this be his international farewell given the form of Danny Welbeck? But England could have done with Defoe in the shootout.

ANDY CARROLL

MAJESTIC header from Steven Gerrard’s cross against Sweden took the country by storm and got us in the Euro mood.

But it was downhill from then onwards and a poor supply line only made matters worse. Worth persisting with, though, because he has all the equipment needed to batter the world’s best defences.
