Chelsea will bid £4million for Southampton left back Luke Shaw this week as they begin a massive rebuilding job at Stamford Bridge.

Roberto Di Matteo, made permanent manager after winning the Champions League and FA Cup, is planning for the future and wants the England Under 17 defender at the club.

Shaw, 17 next week, is an academy graduate and made his first-team debut in the FA Cup at Millwall last season.

Chelsea registered their interest with Southampton in January but the Saints have always maintained they do not want to sell Shaw and are under no pressure to do so after last season’s promotion to the Barclays Premier League.
