German squad enjoy F1 break in Monaco

While Joachim Low and his assistants were going through the footage of Germany's defeat to Switzerland, their squad were enjoying Formula One in Monaco.

The entire Germany congregation was invited to the race by one of the German Football Association's (DFB) main sponsors, but Low had some more important work to do following last night's defeat in Basle.

"We have a lot to analyse," said Low after Germany's first defeat to their neighbours in 56 years.

Mario Gotze and Mats Hummels also remained in Germany's training camp in southern France to receive treatment for minor ailments.

Germany's general manager Oliver Bierhoff therefore led the rest of the congregation, which flew to Monaco by helicopter, to the race, including the eight Bayern Munich players who linked up with the national team for the first time following their Champions League final defeat a week ago.

"There is a good community spirit and it was particularly exciting for the young players," said Bierhoff to Germany's dpa agency.

"We have worked hard for 14 days and sadly we got such a bad result yesterday, so that is also why it was good to make a cut with this experience."

The squad's focus will now turn to their first Euro 2012 group game against Portugal on June 9 with Low pleased to have all hands on deck for the first time.

"The Bayern players will start training tomorrow [Monday] and we were lacking a few players who define our game," said Low.

"With the Bayern players back, we return to normality. Preparations for the Euros commence tomorrow [Monday]."

Germany face Israel in their last warm-up match on Thursday, by which time Low will have trimmed his squad by four players to meet UEFA's May 29 deadline for his final 23-man squad selection.
