Raul 'has the merits' to be part of the Spain squad for Euro 2012, admits Del Bosque

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has admitted that he may call up striker Raul to his squad for Euro 2012.

The 34-year-old has been one of Schalke's key players over the last two seasons, and his fine form has prompted rumours of a return to la Furia Roja.

With Barcelona attacker David Villa facing a race against time to reach full fitness for the tournament in Ukraine and Poland, Raul's services may be needed, and Del Bosque has refused to rule out a potential inclusion.

"Raul has the merits to be in the squad," the trainer told reporters at a press conference.

He added, "We will give a list on May 15, but this will not be the final squad, it will be a provisional group where some players will go to Euro 2012 and others will not."

"Everybody has a chance to be selected. Raul is playing at a good level. He has merits to be included, but there are other players also - we cannot bring them all. It is not about the best Spanish player, but Spanish football at large,"
