Posted Thursday, January 05, 2012 by YAHOO Sport

World Cup champion Spain will play Venezuela in a friendly in February as it prepares for this summer’s European Championship.

The Feb. 29 match will be the last for Spain before coach Vicente del Bosque releases his squad list for the June 8-July 1 tournament in Poland and Ukraine. Spain will look to become the first team to successfully defend its European title after winning the World Cup.

Spain opens against Italy on June 10 before matches against Ireland and Croatia in Group C.

Spain beat Venezuela 3-0 in a match played in the South American country in June.

Proceeds from the match will go to the Spanish Association of Football Players.
