Script:

Euro 2012 is fast approaching its climax.

The Portuguese and Spanish teams flying in to Donetsk in Ukraine on the eve of their semi-final at the Donbass Arena.

Portugal, having got off to a shaky start in this tournament, beat Denmark and the Netherlands to finish second in Group B behind Germany, before beating the Czech Republic in the last eight.

Their successes have been built on the performances of Cristiano Ronaldo, who has shaken off the tag of being a tournament flop and could prove to be a real threat to Spain's defence of their European title.

Portugal will start as clear underdogs in the match, but could be inspired by the prospect of winning their first major title, having lost the 2004 final on home soil against Greece.

Spain will know all about Ronaldo though and will try to blunt his influence.

Four of his Real Madrid team-mates are likely to line up against him: Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Xabi Alonso, and Alvaro Arbeloa.

And Spain's large Barcelona contingent will be well aware of his capabilities as an opponent in La Liga.

Vicente del Bosque's side have come through the competition with relative ease so far - an early draw with Italy in Group C has been followed by three straightforward wins over the Republic of Ireland, Croatia and France.

Spanish fans confident in their team:

"The Spanish team is very compact and balanced, and handle the game very well. They have known each other for many years, and they are well trained."
