French and Spanish fans gathered outside the Donbass Arena in Donetsk on Saturday ahead of their quarter-final clash at Euro 2012.

The crowds enjoyed hot and sunny weather in the build up to the crunch tie, with both sets of supporters optimistic about their chances of reaching the semi finals.

SOUNDBITE (French): Pierre Eveno, French supporter:
"I expected France to stop in the quarter-final, I actually bought my flight back for Monday. Of course, I could change it if we qualify. I did not expect our team to go beyond the quarter-finals, so ending with a game against Spain wouldn't be too bad. Now, if we could make it to the semi-finals, it would be even better. I think most French people do not expect their team to go beyond the quarter-finals, so I would not be overly disappointed if we lost. We kind of expect it anyway."

SOUNDBITE (English): Ernest de Miguel, Spanish supporter:
"We are completely sure that we are going to win. It will be the first time we are going to win against France in an official competition, we are completely sure. That is why we came here."

The winner will go through to play Portugal in the semi finals.
