Russia result a 'wake up call' - Torres
Posted Monday, June 18, 2012 by SNTV

Intro:

Spanish striker Fernando Torres said it was "disrespectful" to suggest that Spain and Croatia would play out a 2-2 draw on purpose on which would see both sides progress to the quarter-finals of Euro 2012, at the expense of Italy.

The Chelsea forward also insisted Spain would play to win following the shock Group A results where Greece qualified ahead of Russia.

Script:

SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Fernando Torres, Spain forward (On the possibility of a 2-2 draw with Croatia) "There is no reason to talk about the 2-2, it's disrespectful to Spain and Croatia. There is no doubt that we are all professionals here. Both teams need to win, there is nothing to indicate that there are agreements. We will try to win the game as we always do, but to keep talking about this, is really not talking about football."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Fernando Torres, Spain forward (After Russia being eliminated, has that encouraged you to go for the win against Croatia?) "Well, I think that the result that Russia had yesterday is a good wake up call for us and for all the teams that we need to win the last game, especially in a tournament like that, when you need to win at least six points and even with six points you can be out. You must be aware from the first minute, until the end in the last game, especially when you have an opponent like Croatia, and they need to win as well. We are aware about the strengths of Croatia, we have been watching videos and we know how to approach the game and we think, we believe we can play our football, play our game and like this, win the game."
