France fans hold their own in Ukraine
Posted Friday, June 15, 2012 by SNTV

Intro:

Co-hosts Ukraine take on France in Euro 2012 Group D on Friday, knowing that a win will see them qualify for the quarter-finals with a game to spare.

Fans in full voice continued to gather, ahead of the second group game for the two nations, in Donetsk.

Script:

The Donbass Arena will be filled with many more Ukrainian supporters than French ones when the two sides play their Euro 2012 match on Friday.

Only a handful of French men were seen outside the stadium and they're feeling isolated
.
SOUNDBITE (French), Nicolas Massin, French supporter
"We are definitely a minority here, there is practically not a single French fan here, I have not seen any French man so far. I hope there will be many French people during the match, even though it does not seem likely, but we will shout anyway."

Another French man, Jeremy Foulon, was not very optimistic about the result.

SOUNDBITE (English), Jeremy Foulon, French supporter
"France is going to draw, 2-2 against Ukraine, with one goal for Benzema and one for Ribery, and I guess, Shevchenko is going to score as well. But, it is going to be a great game, with all the fans from Ukraine, a few, very few from France, 1,000 something like this. But we are going to be here, and we are going to make some noise, go France!"

Ukrainian fans waved flags and chanted - a big match for the home side.

SOUNDBITE (Russian), Victor Neznamov, Ukrainian supporter
"For real Ukrainians, this is a very special day. Let's not forget that we beat Sweden 2-1, so thank you Shevchenko. I am overwhelmed, this is so emotional, Ukraine needs to make the quarter finals. Ukraine is in a good position to come out of the group stage, France is a strong team, so we will need to beat England."

All will be decided on Friday evening.
