Victory songs from Germany fans after they beat the Netherlands 2-1 on Wednesday in the Euro 2012 Group B match.

Sounding out of the Metalist Stadium in Kharkiv, there were chants of "goodbye" to the Dutch supporters.

It was a little premature for that, but the Germans still left the Dutch on the brink of elimination.

SOUNDBITE: (German) Thomas Schwarz, Germany fan:
"Germany always lose in friendlies in the run-up to big tournaments. In 2006, we lost 4- in a friendly in Florence and then we saw how it was in the 2006 World Cup. The friendlies are like that, nobody gives their maximum because nobody wants to get injured. At the tournament it becomes serious. And, this is what we've seen tonight."

But another story over in the Dutch camp as a double from Mario Gomez all but shattered their hopes for Euro 2012.

SOUNDBITE (Dutch) Leo van der Zander, Netherlands supporter:
"There were too many egos in the team. They didn't play for each other, they didn't share the ball, no communication, no contact. They weren't a team, they were all individual egos. And the German team was a team who fought for each other, who played the ball to one man in particular, Gomez, who finished it properly. The Netherlands weren't sharp, the Netherlands were scared and weren't a team."

The Dutch have now lost both group games and so need to defeat Portugal to have any hope of staying in the competition.
