It was a frustrating night for the Portugese who only really came to life after conceding. But the likes of Ronaldo and Nani were kept at bay by thethree-time world champions.
Portugal face Denmark next as the Germans look forward to meeting the Dutch.
The Netherlands will be hoping to redeem themselves as the rivals come head to head. They lost 1-0 to Denmark in their opening Group B match.
