Intro:
Thousands of Spanish and Italian supporters trooped into the Gdansk Arena in high spirits on Sunday but some - particularly the Spaniards - were left subdued after their teams played out a one-all draw in their opening fixture at Euro 2012.
Script:
The winners of the past two World Cups brought different styles into the Group C opener at Gdansk but matched each other, both scoring in the second half.
Spain versus Italy is always an eagerly anticipated fixture and the teams did not disappoint with a high quality match.
Fans from both nations seemed relatively content as they streamed out of the arena on Sunday evening. The Italians, perhaps, felt slightly more pleased with the result.
SOUNDBITE (Italian): Nicolo, Italy supporter:
"That was a great result, a great result and it was a good goal from (Antonio) di Natale but yes, one - one."
SOUNDBITE (Spanish): Jose Antonio, Spain fan:
"I don't think we had more than three chances to score in the second half. There were some chances but in the end (Fernando) Torres was not there. He was not on form and we played in a bad flavour. We needed Torres on form."
Both sets of fans still in good voice - Spain will face Ireland in their next match, while Italy take on Croatia.
