Hummels: Dutch boast 'pure offensive power'

Intro:

German defender Mats Hummels spoke to the press in Gdansk on Sunday (June 10) about his team's performance in the 1-0 victory over Portugal - and their next Group B fixture at Euro 2012 - a meeting with old rivals Netherlands.

SOUNDBITE (German): Mats Hummels, defender, Germany:

"I think you should not draw too many conclusion just after one game. No matter if it was a good or a bad game. You have to improve the performance more often and that is what I'd like to do. It was very nice that the manager trusts in me (i.e. picking Hummels ahead of the experienced Per Mertesacker) and said to me that I am playing. That is the most important thing for a player, to recognise that he is needed, when all other players are fit, also."

SOUNDBITE (German): Mats Hummels, defender, Germany:

"Against the Netherlands it would be nice if we just had to take out Arjen Robben. But unfortunately there are some other players coming to my mind. I saw parts of the Netherlands' game. And they have players like (Wesley) Sneijder, (Ibrahim) Afellay and (Robin) van Persie. That's pure offensive power. But the Danish team did very well in lots of situations. So for us the defence will play a central role in a victory over them, but we want to play better offensively also."
