Two days on from the 1-1 draw with Poland in the opening game of the European Championship, Greece continued their preparations on Sunday for their second match in Group A.

The 2004 winners made the worst possible start to their campaign, falling behind to a Robert Lewandowski goal before being reduced to ten men following the controversial sending off of Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

However a rejuvenated Greek side came out firing in the second half, scoring an equalizer and winning a penalty.

But captain Giorgos Karagounis spurned the chance to put his side ahead, missing from the spot after Wojciech Szczesny was sent off for the hosts.

Goalkeeper Alexandros Tzorvas says the match showed them at their best and worst.

SOUNDBITE: (Greek) Alexandros Tzorvas, Greece goalkeeper (on an improved second half performance against Poland):

"There is a bittersweet taste with the Poland game. It could have gone worse for us. We appeared as two different teams in one game, and that's not an easy thing to do. We can see the effect of the national team on the Greek people, and we can see it here in Poland. I do think the group is favourable. We had a tough opening game, but the result was good and the game against the Czechs comes at a good time. I think the chances are fifty-fifty for both teams."

With the Czech Republic soundly beaten 4-1 against Russia, Greece know their opponents will be desperate to bounce back when they take to the field on Tuesday (12th June).
