SOUNDBITE (German) Hans-Dieter Flick, Germany Assistant Coach:
(What do you make of Saturday's opponents Portugal?)
"Yesterday evening we started analysing Portugal and we pointed out how strong the Portuguese team is, especially in attack with Nani and Ronaldo - these are two extraordinary players who always do something special in a game. We have to be awake because of this, especially when Portugal have possession."

SOUNDBITE: (German) Hans-Dieter Flick, Germany Assistant Coach:
(How important is it to win your first game in this tough group?)
"It's always important to win the first game, especially in our group, because the next games against Netherlands and Denmark are going to be even more difficult. We believe that we are going to survive this group successfully. It's a group of death, the most difficult group."

SOUNDBITE: (German) Hans-Dieter Flick, Germany Assistant Coach:
(How does this team compare from the one at the 2008 European Championship and the side at the 2010 World Cup?)
"You cannot compare this European Championship with South Africa, we had a lot of players missing. When we went there nobody had any confidence in us, this time it is different, we are among the favourites for the title."
