On the eve of Euro 2012, co-hosts Poland went over their final preparations ahead of the tournament curtain raiser against Greece.

The Poles have a genuine goal threat in forward Robert Lewandowski who notched 30 times for German champions Borussia Dortmund this season.

Coach Franciszek Smuda says they'll need a sharp attack to break through the Greek wall.

SOUNDBITE: (Polish) Franciszek Smuda, Poland manager (on Greece):

"Their defence and their entire team area very defensive, they have a great defence. In fact, the Greeks are perfect in defence. We could see that during the European Championship in Portugal in 2004. So I'm sure for us it will (have to) be a great game."

Greece meanwhile enter the tournament as huge underdogs. Despite stunning the rest of Europe in 2004 by winning the competition in Portugal, few tip them to succeed this time around.

However captain Giorgios Karagounis says maximum effort is what it's all about.

SOUNDBITE: (Greek) Giorgios Karagounis, Greece captain:

"We are here to do something very concrete - that is to give 100 per cent, to enjoy our participation and to give joy to the people back in Greece. This is what we are thinking, this is what we are interested in."

Poland and Greece kick off the tournament, before Russia and the Czech Republic conclude the opening day's play.
