There was a brilliant show of support for the Netherlands as fans packed the Reymana Stadium in Krakow to watch the Dutch train on Wednesday.

Spirits are high amongst the Netherlands squad and they should be.

The 1988 European champions thrashed Northern Ireland 6-0 on Saturday and they were prolific in qualification for Euro 2012, winning their first nine matches and scoring 37 goals in their 10 games.

However, 25 of those came in four matches against San Marino and Hungary and they are unlikely to repeat the feat in Group B against Germany, Portugal and Denmark.

Bert Van Marwijk led his side to the 2010 World Cup final, only to watch his players lose 1-0 to Spain in a bad-tempered affair.

The Netherlands can play with flair and the likes of Arjen Robben and Robin Van Persie will provide a potent attacking threat.

However, there are problems in defence.

Joris Mathjisen was injured during the friendly defeat to Bulgaria and Van Marwijk isn't optimistic that the centre-back will be fit in time for their opening game.

SOUNDBITE: (Dutch) Bert van Marwijk, Netherlands Coach (On fitness of Joris Mathijsen)
"Yes, we do still have two days to make a decision on Joris and we will see how he progresses. At the moment i would say it is about 80% that he will not make the first game against Denmark."

If the Dutch enjoy similar support against Denmark on Saturday, they could make the best of starts on their quest to win a second European Championship.
