Intro:

German team manager Oliver Bierhoff says his team have 'great potential' on Tuesday in Gdansk, Poland, ahead of the UEFA European Championships.

Germany go into the tournament as one of the strong favourites but the former striker, Bierhoff, said although the team have 'great potential' there is a 'lot of stress' with expectations going into the UEFA European Championships.

Striker Miroslav Klose started that game but it was one of the few times the 33-year-old failed to find the back of the net for his country. In qualifying, he managed to score at least one goal in every game he played.

Klose said that the Germans will only be beaten by their first opponents at the tournament, Portugal, if they play with a 'whole team effort'. He mentioned Real Madrid players Cristiano Ronaldo and Pepe as people who could win the match on June 9th in Lviv, Ukraine.

SOUNDBITE (German) SUPER CAPTION: Oliver Bierhoff, Team Manager

"This time we know what we can do, because we had a great qualification round and the quality of our players is high. We have shown what we can do against the Netherlands, against Brazil and also in the qualification. But we have also shown what is possible in the other way. And that's why the stress has maybe never been higher. we all know that all, the DFB, the team, the fans have high expectations. but we also can fall down very hard. we have to be concentrated and work hard. but i know, that the team has big potential."

"If they (Portugal) want to beat us, they can just beat us with a whole team effort. For sure they have very good players, like Ronaldo or Pepe, and other very interesting players who could be dangerous for us, but if they are able to beat us, then only with a whole team effort."
