Intro:

The Netherlands beat Slovakia 2-0 in a friendly in Rotterdam on Wednesday night (30th May) courtesy of an own goal from Kornel Salata and a second half strike from substitute Rafael van der Vaart.

Script:

With just one win in their last four friendlies, the Netherlands were looking to find form ahead of Euro 2012 when they played Slovakia on Wednesday.

The Dutch fielded a strong line up boasting world superstars, but it was a Slovakian who gave them the lead.

The unfortunate Kornel Salata sliced into his own net after seven minutes.

Ibrahim Affelay's whipped in cross causing the damage.

Holland then spurned a glut of chances to double their advantage.

First Robin van Persie blazed over. Before in the second half substitute Rafael van der Vaart hit the crossbar from a set piece.

And the less said about this 73rd minute effort from Affelay, the better!

Those three misses all came off a left boot, so two minutes later when van der Vaart burst into the box he went with his right and finally the Netherlands had their second goal.

The Dutch kick off their European Championship campaign against Denmark on June 9th.
