Home to Ukrainian champions, Shakhtar Donetsk, the Donbass Arena will be a major focus of attention at this year's Euro 2012 championship.
The stadium will host three Group D matches, although none of them will involve the host nation.
It will also stage one of the tournament's quarter-finals and a semi-final.
The 51-thousand seat ground was designed by the same company that created Manchester City's Etihad Stadium in England.
The Donbass Arena was unveiled in 2009 and cost 300 million euros (378 million US dollars) to construct.
As the official opening demonstrated, its flying saucer-like appearance looks particularly spectacular when lit up at night.
