Greece aim to recreate heroics of 2004

Intro:

Greece will be hoping that a little of the old 2004 magic will follow them to Poland and Ukraine when they take part in Euro 2012.

Script:

Greece shocked the football world eight years ago when they won Euro 2004, and they will be hoping that a little bit of the old 2004 magic will follow them to Poland and Ukraine when they take part in Euro 2012.

And their Portuguese coach Fernando Santos will be expecting progress into the knockout phase as an absolute minimum requirement. And this mentality appears to be shared by Kaiserslauten midfielder Costas Fourtounis.

SOUNDBITE: (Greek) Costas Fourtounis, Kaiserslautern and Greece midfielder:

"From what the national team has shown, we're a very good team, solid, and I believe that through our route up to now we can reach even higher… at the Euros."

There are a few parallels with the 2004 success and this years event. They take on a host nation and also play Russia and the Czech Republic in the group stages, just as they did eight years ago.

These coincidences will no doubt have the 'Galanolefki' dreaming of more European Championship success, but there is a good chance that if they do progress from group A, they will be facing the Netherlands, Germany or even Portugal once again, so it certainly won't be easy for them!
