Gareth Barry was enjoying a round of golf in Spain with Manchester City team-mate James Milner when he heard he was selected by Roy Hodgson in England's Euro 2012 squad.

Barry is one of four central midfielders selected, and naturally the Premier League winner is excited to board the plane to Poland and Ukraine.

SOUNDBITE (English) Gareth Barry, Manchester City and England midfielder:

"Yeah. It is fantastic news (to be in the England squad). We found about an hour or so ago that me and James were both in the squad so it's good news today. A new manager - so it is nice to be in his plans to start with."

England failed to qualify for the previous Euros and crashed out of the 2010 World Cup with a 4-1 defeat to Germany. But the defensive midfielder says this time England go into the tournament with no pressure.

SOUNDBITE (English) Gareth Barry, Manchester City and England midfielder:

"Yeah. In terms of previous tournaments, I think the expectation levels are a lot lower which I am hoping will help the team. As you say, it's a new manager who is not going to have the ideal amount of time to get to know the players and get his ideas across. But we have got a week to ten days off now where we can relax and hopefully go into the tournament (Euro 2012) more fresh than previous ones."

Barry will hope to add to his 52 caps and three goals when England start their campaign against France on June 11th.
