Hard line on discipline at Euro 2012

UEFA chief refereeing officer Pierluigi Collina has confirmed that yellow cards will be issued to players guilty of confronting match officials at Euro 2012. The referees chosen for the upcoming European Football Championship have gathered for a workshop and training session in Warsaw, Poland.

As teams from all over Europe get ready for Euro 2012, the men charged with the task of officiating the matches are also making their final preparations ahead of the tournament.

The competition is now just five weeks away, and for Chief Refereeing Officer Pierluigi Collina, upholding respect within the tournament's matches is of huge importance.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Pierluigi Collina, UEFA Chief Refereeing Officer:

"Respect means also to respect the referees. So players are informed, will be informed that mobbing by the players is not allowed."

UEFA's refereeing committee have also said that they are keen to avoid scenes in which players could potentially intimidate match officials, with Collina insisting that yellow cards will be used in order to uphold the laws of the game.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Pierluigi Collina, UEFA Chief Refereeing Officer:

"Players are aware if a mass confrontation occurs on the field of play, at least two yellow cards will be given to the initiators of the mass confrontation."

Europe's finest teams head to the Ukraine and Poland this summer looking to be crowned champions of the continent - With the referees in charge of the competition hoping that it's the beautiful game, and not indiscipline that takes centre stage.
