Forget about the Olympics, first up in the summer of sport is Euro 2012.

Europe's elite footballers will travel to Poland and here at the Olympic Stadium in Kiev, Ukraine for the start of the tournament in June.

The British ambassador, for one, cannot wait.

SOUNDBITE (English): UK HM Ambassador Leigh Turner:

"I'm really looking forward to this tournament, to the football, to the fans, everything. We as the British Embassy here in Ukraine have been working closely with the Ukrainian authorities to make sure that the tournament will be safe, to make sure we can look after all of the British fans we're expecting to come here and I'm looking forward to it so much and I'm hoping to go to some of the games too."

All the stadia are now ready for action, but there's also been a new addition to Ukraine's transport hub.

Kiev airport has had the new Terminal D built especially for the competition, as Volodymyr Burkovsky, director of the airport, explains.

SOUNDBITE (Russian): Volodymyr Burkovsky, director of International airport Booryspil building:

"Terminal D is in the last stages of construction. It is almost done. It will be ready before the EURO 2012 competition and there are no doubts. You see it is a very comfortable terminal. As for security - it will be on the highest level."

London 2012 build up will have to wait - for now, it's all about the Euros.
